On day 78 of my Final Fantasy marathon, I obtained the final tablet and unlocked the last three sealed weapons. Today, I’m doing some cleanup before heading into the Void.
Around the world in 80 seconds
I rode Boko around the world and stopped back at the Phantom Town to collect the Mirage Vest. My next stop was Bal Castle.
Bal Castle
We previously discovered an area in the basement of Bal Castle that is locked from the inside. We entered Jacol Cave and climbed up the wall to get into it.

There, we found Odin. He challenged us to beat him in less than one minute.
I threw my best spells and summons against him and beat him with 12 seconds left on the clock. I gained the ability to summon him in battle.
Phoenix Tower
My final stop was Phoenix Tower, which is in the desert southwest of North Mountain. This very tall tower has 10 urns, some of which have items or gil in them.
The rest contain a monster who will flee if you give him an Elixir, awarding you 100 ABP. Thanks to all that ABP, Lenna mastered the Ninja job, so I switched her to Berserker with the Dual-Wield ability.
Rand mastered Time Mage, so I switched him to Monk with the Summon Lv. 5 ability. Faris mastered Ranger, so I switched her to Blue Mage with the White Magic Lv. 6 ability.
We find Hiryu at the top of the tower. He plunges off the tower and Krile tells Lenna he wants to help her.
Lenna flashes back to when her mother was dying. Her father tells her only a Wind Drake tongue can save her mother.
Lenna grabs a knife and heads for Hiryu. Her teacher Jenica confronts her, saying if she cuts out Hiryu’s tongue she will be killing the last of the Wind Drakes.
Furthermore, she reminds Lenna how much her mother cares for Hiryu. I’m given the option of whether or not to have Lenna cut out his tongue.
I choose “No.” I assume that even if I chose “Yes” she would have either changed her mind or someone would have stopped her, since we already know Hiryu is still alive.
Jenica tells Lenna that her father used to come here every day pondering the same awful choice. As Hiryu continues to plummet, we see him burst into flames.
He becomes a phoenix and we can now summon him in battle. I teleport off the tower and return to Phantom Town on the black chocobo to restock supplies.
Interdimensional Rift
I fly the airship into the void where Tycoon Castle used to be and we get sucked into the rift. It has 17 chests and no items.
As we attempt to enter, Exdeath’s monsters appear and tell us the Void will be our burial ground. The rift resembles different areas we have been through before.

In the part that looks like the Forest of Moore, we encounter our first monster, Calofisteri. She is challenging, but doesn’t require any special strategy to defeat.
Further in, we encounter an optional superboss called Omega. The smart thing to do would be to just pass him by and come back after I beat the game, but I’m stubborn, so I decide to attempt to beat him now.
I lose a bunch of times and decide to try leveling up. Then I got tired and saved at the save point right before him and logged out.
