On day 12 of my Final Fantasy Marathon, I defeated the Emperor, only to have him return from Hell to cause more trouble. Today, I’m on my way to Hell to finish him off for good.

The Jade Passage

To get into Hell, I must first pass through the Devil’s Asshole, also known as the Jade Passage. Most of the treasures in here are items, but there are a few pieces of equipment.

I get a Rune Axe, which I give to Galad. At the magic shop behind the waterfall, I buy a couple Haste tomes and give them to Rand and Perrin and some Flare Tomes to use as items.

I get a Yochi Bow for Elayne and an Aegis Shield for Rand. The Dragon Armor goes to Perrin.

Pandaemonium

Finally, I reach a warp pad that takes me into Pandaemonium, the castle of Hell. There are many random encounters and some feature enemies, such as coeurls, with troublesome special attacks.

However, as I progress, I acquire equipment that provides protection against many of these attacks. A room with four doors leads to some mini-boss monster-in-a-box encounters.

You can do them in any order. I got Beelzebub first. All of these mini-boss fights feature enemies with relatively high HP and resistance to physical attacks.

However, none of them are super difficult to defeat. I get some Genji Armor from the first box and give it to Perrin.

Next up is Astaroth. Killing him gets me a Ribbon, which I give to Elayne. Defeating Tiamat yields the Genji Helm, which goes to Perrin.

Finally, I confront Zombie Borghen. He’s the easiest of the four to take down, but at least he did keep his promise to see us in Hell.

I get the Genji Gloves and give them to Perrin. Also in this room, is a hidden passage to another treasure box that holds the Masamune, the most powerful sword in the game.

I give that weapon to Rand. On the 10th floor, I finally reach the Undead Emperor.

I’m not sure if it was intended to be, but this is probably the easiest final boss fight in the entire Final Fantasy series. I equipped the Blood Sword on Galad, which allowed him to do 9999 damage to the Emperor with a single swipe.

The fight ended in just two rounds. The Undead Emperor is shocked that we defeated him twice.

The emperor is most sincerely dead

We return to Castle Fynn, where Hilda thanks us. Gordon says with the combined strength of Kashuan and Fynn, they will rebuild the kingdom even better than before.

Paul complains that with the empire gone, he has no one to steal from. Leila offers us a job piratin’.

Nelly says she’s sure her dad is happy for us up in the clouds and then we get a brief ghostly glimpse of Josef. Elayne says we can all live in peace again.

However, Galad says some of us can’t go back and Rand agrees. Galad leaves.

We then get a brief force ghost appearance from Josef, Minwu, Cid, and Ricard. Rand declares this is only the beginning and the game ends with a scrolling cutscene.

The world is now at peace thanks to our young heroes. The end credits roll.

I completed the game in 15 hours and 49 minutes. Next up is Final Fantasy III!
