On day 15 of my Final Fantasy Marathon, I left off after helping Prince Alus defeat the monster Garuda and obtaining the Nautilus. Today, I’m on my way to Doga’s Manor on the Dalg continent.

Doga’s Manor

The manor has no chests and one item. Shortly after I set foot in the manor, Doga shows up.

He orders his band of Moogles to seize me, but when he realizes we are the Warriors of Light, he calls them off. We’re kind of a big deal.

Doga tells us that his old colleague Xande is responsible for the current state of the world. When Master Noah died, he gave Doga his magic and gave Unei power of the dreamscape.

However, he gifted Xande with mortality, which pissed Xande off. I mean, that does seem like kind of a shitty gift.

Xande took out his big feelings on the world, using the power of the Earth Crystal and the technical knowledge of the Ancients to cause the earthquake. We tell Doga that Goldor destroyed the Earth Crystal.

Dolga tells us that was just a rock that he enchanted to produce gold. The Earth Crystal is still hidden.

However, Xande is trying to harness the darkness to rid the world of light. Doga decides to help us in our quest to stop him and joins the party.

Cave of the Circle

We must journey into the Cave of the Circle. To get in, I have to cast mini on the party and we must stay that way inside the circle.

Since we can only use magic effectively, I change Matt and Perrin to the geomancer job. There are no chests or items in the cave.

The cave is a pretty small dungeon. When we reach the end, Doga casts a spell on our ship, so that it can go underwater.

He tells us to go to the Temple of Time which is under the sea at Cape Twin Horn, south of Saronia. He says we will find Noah’s Lute inside.

Once we have the lute, we can use it to reach Unei in the world of dreams and bring her back to our world so she can help us get the ship, the Invincible. Meanwhile, Doga is going to fetch Eureka’s Key.

Doga uses his magic to warp us out of the cave. I go back in the manor so I can use the magic pots to restore my HP and MP and purchase some spells and then get back on my ship.

Treasure Hunting

Now that I have access to a ship that goes underwater, I can go after some treasure various NPCs have hinted at. First up, I head to the triangle-shaped island and submerge my ship.

I find an entrance to the Sunken Cave. There are 19 chests and no items inside.

The most useful items I find include a Diamond Shield for Perrin, a Dual Tomahawk for Perrin, a Diamond Helm for Perrin, an Air Knife for Matt, some Diamond Mail for Perrin, some Diamond Bracers for Rand, some Power Bracers for Matt, some Diamond Gloves for Perrin, and an Elixir. The last batch of chests are all monster-in-a-box fights.

The first is a Zombie Dragon. It contains an Aegis Shield for Perrin. Next, are three Eaters. It holds the Triton Hammer for Perrin.

I get some Reflective mail from the next box and in the final box I battle the Peryton for a Blood Lance. I use an ottershroom to warp out of the cave.

Doga’s Village

I find an entrance to Doga’s Village, but the only thing there is shops that sell magic. I don’t have a traditional magic caster in the party right now or a lot of extra money to spend, so I stick a pin in that one.

Saronia Catacombs

An underwater passage on the eastern side of Saronia leads me to the catacombs. They contain 13 chests and one item.

The treasure is mostly repeats, but I do get four elixirs from some monster-in-a-box encounters. Odin awaits at the end of the catacombs.

I give this battle a couple tries before deciding my party is not yet strong enough for this fight and making my way back out of the catacombs. I think that’s all the underwater stuff, though I feel like there might be something else, but also I could be remembering something from a different game.

Temple of Time

I fly my ship to the “horns” south of Saronia and submerge, where I find the Temple of Time. It contains 10 chests and one item.

The treasures are pretty much all repeats. On the last floor, I find Noah’s Lute. I also get a pair of Protect Rings from some chests in a hidden room, which I give to Rand and Egwene.

Unei’s Shrine

I fly a short distance north to Unei’s Shrine. It contains no chests and one item. I play the lute to wake her up.

She runs a few laps around the shrine to shake off the cobwebs. When I speak to her, she tells me that Doga told her about me and what Xande did.

She tells us we need a ship strong enough to transport us up and over mountain ranges. She says we can find one in the Ancient Ruins to the north.

Unei joins our party and gives us the Fang of Fire. She explains that we need the four elemental fangs to get past the statues Xande has guarding his tower.

We have three. To get the last one, we need to get the ship from the ruins.

Ancient Ruins

Before flying to the ancient ruins, I give Odin another shot, but still no go. I enter the Ancient ruins, which has five chests and no items.

The ruins are blocked off by an adamantium wall. However, Unei clears it by destroying it in the dream world.

The chests contain treasure that isn’t relevant to my current party. However, I do purchase a Black Robe for Egwene at the armor shop.

Many of the enemies in the dungeon multiply when struck by physical attacks, so I rely on my magic users to win most of the fights. I find a Rune Bell in a chest, which goes to Rand.

At the end of the ruins, we find the Nautilus. This gigantic ship can not only hop over mountains, but it has a bed and a vending area, so I can rest my party and purchase supplies whenever I want without having to go back to a town.

Unei shows us around our new ship and then tells us she is leaving. She says the Fang of Earth is in the Cave of Shadows north of Amur.

Once we have it, we are to return to Doga’s Manor, where Doga and Unei will have something else for us. I rest up and the quit the game at eight hours and 51 minutes in.
