On day 24 of my Final Fantasy Marathon, I left off after finishing the Tower of Babel. Today, I’m on my way to the Sealed Cave.
Dwarven Castle
I return to King Giott and give him the bad news that we lost yet another Crystal. He tells us that Golbez is trying to force his way into the Sealed Cavern.

Giott gives us his daughter’s necklace, which will unseal the cavern so we can get in and get the crystal before Golbez, because obviously we’ve done such a great job protecting them so far. We find Cid in the infirmary recovering from his bombing injuries.
Cid asks about the Crystals and we tell him Golbez has all but the Crystal in the Sealed Cavern and we can’t go after it because we left the Enterprise in the Overworld and the Falcon can’t fly over magma. Cid hops out of bed, against the protests of his dwarven caretakers, and fixes up the Falcon.
Kokkol’s Smithy
We stop by Kokkol’s Smithy in the southeastern part of the Underworld. There are two items and no chests.
One of the items is a Soma Drop, which increases max MP by 50. I give it to Rydia.
Kokkol says he won’t forge another sword until he finds the legendary ore adamantite. That seems like something for later, so I leave.
Tomra
Tomra is located on the southern central tip of the underworld. It has four chests and two items. I buy some equipment upgrades at the shops and restock supplies.
I stop by the Sylvan Cave and the Land of Summons, but the monsters seem too tough for my current level, so I head for the Sealed Cavern.
Sealed Cavern

The Sealed Cavern has 19 chests and no items. We use the necklace to open the door and head inside.
The doors inside the cavern transform into a Trap Door monster. It has a one-hit-kill attack, but except for one time, I finish it off before it can use it.
We find two Kotetsu in chests that go to Edge. Cecil gets a Light Sword. We also find a Fuma Shuriken and a Black Cowl for Edge.
We make our way through the cavern and get the Dark Crystal. However, as we leave the Crystal chamber, a wall monster attacks.
Its normal attacks don’t do much damage, but it moves closer to the party on every turn. If it reaches the party, it does massive damage. However, I kill it before it can do so by having Rosa cast Haste on the party and then using my usual attack tactics.
We make our way back to the entrance of the Cavern, but before we can leave, we hear Golbez telling Kain to bring him the Crystal. Kain claims he is alright, but then attacks Cecil and takes the Crystal.
Golbez gloats about how he can now restore the Tower of Babel and reach the moon. We plead with Kain to wake up, but he is anti-woke again.
We see Golbez do something with the Crystals, and the Tower powers up. We fly the airship back to the Dwarven Castle.
We fucked up again
I return to King Giott to tell him about our latest fuckup. He says there is nothing we can do now unless the story of the Lunar Whale is true. He explains the Lunar Whale is a huge ship spoken of in a legend that begins, “One born of a dragon…”
Cecil recognizes the legend as the prophecy the Elder talked about and everyone gets excited that maybe it’s for real. Cecil tells him the Elder prays tirelessly in a tower.
Giott thinks maybe the Elder is praying for the Blue Whale and tells Cecil to hurry to Mysidia. Rosa says the way to the surface is sealed off.

Cid shows back up and says he can attach a drill to the Falcon so we can get back to the Overworld. Cid attaches the drill and then returns to his sick bed, saying it seems he’ll need to stay out of the action for awhile.
Cave of Summons
Before I head to Mysidia, I have some unfinished business in the Underworld. First stop is the Land of Summons.
Even though I lost Kain, the levels I gained in the Sealed Cavern boosted my power enough that I can now handle the random encounters here. There are 11 chests and no items.
Rydia says we should ask Leviathan for help. We find Kikuichimonji in a chest and give it to Edge.
We get Defender from a monster-in-a-box fight and give it to Cecil. We enter the Land of Summons.
Land of Summons
There are 11 chests and two items here, but the items are not accessible yet. We find a Rat Tail in a chest, which is a key item.
I purchase some equipment upgrades at the shops and restock supplies. We find Asura and Leviathan in the basement of the library.

We must talk to Asura before we can talk to Leviathan. We ask for her help and she says we must prove our worth by defeating her.
Asura alternates between attacking the party and healing or buffing herself. The key to winning is to cast reflect on Asura so that when she tries to heal herself it bounces onto the party.
Beyond that, I have Cecil and Edge attack, Rydia summon Titan and Rosa heal the party. It’s a long fight, but we eventually win.
Asura gives us permission to talk to Leviathan and says we can summon her whenever we want. Leviathan also requires us to defeat him to prove our worth.
His big attack is tidal wave, which hits the whole part for heavy damage. I attack with Cecil, cast Blitz with Edge and summon Ramah with Rydia.
Rosa casts Curaga on the party every turn and eventually we win. Leviathan agrees to serve us.
We finish looting the town, picking up a Yoichi Arrow and Yoichi’s Bow for Rosa. We then use the warp pad to leave and teleport back to the surface.
The Sylvan Cave
We return to the Sylvan Cave. While some of the enemies here are very annoying because of their status attacks, we can handle them now.
We get a Soma Drop and a Golden Apple that go to Rydia. In the Sylvan Grotto we find Yang asleep or perhaps in a coma in a bed, surrounded by Fairies.
We can’t wake him, so we leave. There are six chests with monster-in-box encounters, one of which is a super annoying fight against four Marlboros.
These enemies constantly use their bad breath attack to inflict multiple status effects. It takes me a few attempts to beat them and the reward is the Avenger, a sword that doesn’t seem like an upgrade over what Cecil already has.
Return to Fabul

When we finally get out of the Sylvan Cave, I head topside and return to Fabul to speak to Yang’s wife. She gives me a frying pan and tells me to smack Yang with it.
I return to the Sylvan grotto and give Yang a smack. He wakes up and tells us that the Sylphs saved his life.
Yang wants to join us again, but the Sylphs think he needs more rest. To keep him from leaving, they agree to allow Rydia to summon them.
I return to Fabul again and use the frying pan with Yang’s wife. She thanks us and gives us a knife that is a throwing item for Edge that comes in handy in the final boss fight. I save the game outside Fabul and quit at 12 hours and 22 minutes in.
