On day 26 of my Final Fantasy Marathon, I left off just before the final series of dungeons. Today, I finish up Final Fantasy IV Pixel Remaster.

I make my way back through the Lunar Path to the Crystal Palace. When I step on the square in the center of the crystal room, I get the message “We shall guide you to the core.”

Lunar Subterrane

This takes me to the Lunar Subterrane. It has 32 chests and no items. The first chest has a Sage’s Staff, which boosts Rosa’s spirit by quite a few points.

We must defeat the White Dragon to get Murasame, the second most powerful sword for Edge. We get some Black Garb for Edge.

I get a full set of Dragon gear for Cecil. The Stardust Rod gives Rydia a nice intelligence boost.

Next, I get a full set of Crystal gear, which I give to Cecil. I transfer the Dragon gear over to Kain.

I battle a pair of Behemoths to get two protect rings, which go to Rosa and Rydia. Rosa gets the White Robe.

I find a couple Fuma Shurikens for Edge. A Golden Apple goes to Rydia. The first tough battle of this dungeon is Dark Bahamut.

He opens the fight with a Mega Flare attack that can kill up to four party members. I battle him several times before I realize I’m making things harder on myself by summoning Bahamut.

Bahamut does massive damage, but also triggers a Mega Flare counter. I start having Rydia summon Ashura to heal and buff the party instead.

Then, I focus on having Rosa revive fallen characters, healing when nobody is down and just whittle Dark Bahamut’s HP down until I beat him. I get Ragnarok, which is Cecil’s most powerful sword.

I battle Plague to get the Holy Lance for Kain. A pair of Lunasaurs guard two chests that contain Ribbons, which I give to Rosa and Rydia.

I defeat Ogopogo to get Masamune, which is Edge’s most powerful sword. Finally, I reach the final floor of the dungeon, where I see Golbez and FuSoYa confronting Zemus.

Zemus

The pair throw all their best magic at him, including double meteor, which takes him down. He says the body dies, but the spirit lives on.

Everyone celebrates and the game is over. Yay, we won! Just kidding. He of course comes back stronger.

The hatred of Zemus returns as Zeromus. Golbez and FuSoYa take him on again and quickly lose.

Back in Mysidia, the Elder and all of our friends who didn’t come to the moon are sending their prayers to help us. Golbez gives Cecil the crystal and tells him to use it against Zeromus.

Zeromus

Zeromus attacks. At first, Cecil is the only one not KO’d and he is just barely alive. However, our friends appear and revive and heal the entire party.

Zeromus transforms into some crazy looking thing, and the final fight is on. Zeromus has some powerful magic attacks that do massive damage to the entire party.

He also periodically nulls all magic, so buffs don’t do much good in this fight. I lose the first time I face him and decide to level everyone up before trying again.

Annoyingly, you have to go through the entire lengthy final sequence each time you face him. The second time, I threw the knife for 9999 damage and one of the Fuma Shurikens for 4000+ with Edge before he got knocked out.

I cast Bahamut once with Rydia for 8000+ damage before she got knocked out. I managed to keep Kain, Cecil, and Rosa alive for several rounds, with Kain jumping and Cecil attacking, but shortly after I had Rosa use a full life to bring Rydia back, the other three got knocked out.

I was prepared to have to try again, but I decided to summon Asura as a Hail Mary, hoping she might revive the entire party. She never did, but Zeromus kept casting Meteor and missing.

Eventually, with Rydia fully healed, I decided to summon Bahamut, and that finished off Zeromus. He departed with the cheerful message that he can never perish as long as evil exists in the hearts of the living.

Prologue

FuSoYa is impressed by our victory and thinks maybe the people of Earth have evolved beyond the lunarians. Kain is troubled by Zeromus’ final message.

FuSoYa says that evil will never die because every living creature has both goodness and evil in its heart. FuSoYa says it is time for him to go home and Cecil says they should go home too.

Golbez asks to go with FuSoYa. He says he can’t go home after all he has done and he’d like to meet his father’s people.

FuSoYa agrees, but tells Golbez to prepare for a very long sleep. Golbez asks Cecil if he has forgiven him.

Cecil doesn’t respond. FuSoYa and Golbez say their goodbyes. With some urging from his friends, Cecil tells his brother goodbye and Golbez thanks him.

The Blue Planet

The Lunar Whale returns to its resting place in the ocean. We see short scenes featuring all our friends.

Palom is still blowing off his training and Porom is still scolding him. Gramps is on Edge’s case to act more like a King, but Edge has Rydia on his mind.

Rydia is back in the Land of Summons. Yang is now the King of Fabul. Edward is working hard to rebuild Damcyan, while still mourning Anna.

Giott is rebuilding his castle. He tells Luca that Cecil and Rosa are to become the new king and queen of Baron and they invited everyone to the coronation.

Kain is on Mt. Ordeals with his blonde hair flowing in the wind. He says he must test himself until he surpasses his father as a dragoon and then he can return to Baron.

A pair of astronomers see the lunarians’ moon flying away. Cecil hears his brother saying, “so long.”

Everyone but Kain shows up for the coronation/wedding. They all wave to the camera and the game ends.

My completion time is 16 hours and 33 minutes. For those who must collect everything, there are some tails that are rare drops from specific enemies in the Lunar Subterrane.

You can exchange them with the tail collector for some high-end equipment. However, none of it is necessary to beat Zeromus and I’ve already done it in previous playthroughs, so I’m not going for it this time.

Instead, I will be moving on to Final Fantasy IV The Afteryears.
