On day 32 of my Final Fantasy Marathon, I completed the childhood portion of Porom’s Tale. On day 33, I finish the rest of her tale.

Mist

We enter Mist and go to Rydia’s house. She asks why we are there and Porom says we are just visiting.

However, Palom has other ideas. He wants to go to the Feymarch as part of his sage training.

Rydia agrees to take him for a quick visit. Porom accuses Palom of having come to see Cid in the first place because he wanted to go to the Feymarch.

Before we leave, we loot the town. I find a Soma Drop that I save for later. We board the Falcon and head to the Underworld.

King Giott

Rydia asks Cid to stop by the Dwarven Castle. Porom says we’ll get to see Luca again and Palom is not very enthusiastic about it.

We go say hello to King Giott. Luca shows up and Cid says she has become a stylish little lady, which is a bald-faced lie.

Luca says she never liked Dwarven fashion. Giott asks why we came. Porom explains we are going to the Feymarch.

Luca invites herself to go with us, but Palom says no. Luca insists and Rydia agrees to let her come along, but only as far as the Passage of the Eidolons.

Passage of the Eidolons

We get back on the Falcon with Luca in tow, but she doesn’t officially join our party. Cid flies us to the Passage of the Eidolons.

Luca chats up Palom, but he seems uninterested in talking. We arrive at the Passage and Rydia tells Luca to stay with Cid on the Falcon.

We learn the Thunderstorm band skill. I find a Sage’s Surplice, which goes to Porom.

When we arrive at the teleporter to the Village of Eidolons, Palom says he can feel the Eidolons. However, Rydia says he and Porom will not be coming inside with her.

Palom wonders why she drug them all the way down there just to deny them entry. Rydia says the Eidolons aren’t fond of humans going into the Feymarch.

Additionally, because time flows erratically in there, they could end up out of sync with the human world. Palom says he is willing to risk it.

He continues to plead with Rydia to let him come with her, but she refuses. Eventually, the twins agree to wait outside while Rydia goes into the Village.

Palom wonders why she’d even bring them just to do this. Porom thinks maybe she wanted to test their hearts.

Rydia returns a few seconds later and says we better get back to the Falcon. She seems troubled, but denies it.

Back on the Falcon

I have Porom Teleport us out and we get back on the Falcon. Cid asks how it went and everyone pretends it went great.

Luca announces she has decided to become Cid’s apprentice. Cid flies us back to the future.

Present day Mysidia

Porom is upset that she was left behind while Palom went off to Troia. The Elder observes that Porom wanted to go to Troia instead of Palom.

She says she doesn’t know anymore. The Elder asks if she is worried about Palom. He then says she wants to go off on her own, just like Palom.

He says Palom is a rare talent, but is still young and that is why he sent him to Troia. He believes Palom can learn a lot from teaching others.

The Elder says that Porom is worried that Palom will leave her behind someday. She says perhaps she is.

The Elder assures her that someday she will find her own path to walk without Palom. He then exlaims that the dragon is crying.

The Lunar Whale

The Lunar Whale rises from the ocean and takes off for the moon. The Elder calls the mages to a meeting to discuss what is going on.

He says with Palom absent, he wants to call upon the powers of the dragoon who is rumored to be on Mount Ordeals. Porom says she heard Kain severed all ties with Baron.

We then transition to the portion of the meeting we saw in Edge’s Tale. Porom sets off for Mount Ordeals and the Elder assigns a generic white and black mage to go with her.

Mount Ordeals

I find a Psycho Spiral, but don’t equip it. I find a Sage’s Miter and give it to the generic white mage. Some Dark Arrows go to Porom.

I find some Adamantite. Porom arrives at the plinth where Cecil entered the Mirror room in FFIV.

She says she can hear a voice that she’s known before, but it is fading. The party appears in the mirror room, but it is full of broken glass.

The voice speaks to Porom, telling her it is about to fade, but his spirit will never be extinguished. He tells Porom that his sons have always believed in her.

Porom identifies the voice as Cecil’s father and the father of all who study magic. We reappear on the summit.

Kain

I begin descending the mountain when enemies attack from behind. Porom says we are hopelessly outnumbered.

Kain shows up and kills all the monsters. He doesn’t seem to remember who Porom is. She tells him she came here to find him on orders of her elder.

She explains that Baron is in danger, but Kain questions why he should help, given that he severed ties with Baron long ago. Porom says Kain is lying to her and himself.

He agrees. He joins the party and we make our way down the mountain. Part way down, we see the scene from Edge’s Tale where Porom senses Palom is in trouble.

Mysidia under siege

We arrive back in Mysidia to find it under siege by monsters that have come out of the Devil’s Road. We fight off the monsters in town and head for the Hall of Prayer.

A downed mage tells us the Elder is in trouble. We find him on the Prayer dais, with a Blood Eye looming over him.

The Blood Eye is much tougher than the other enemies we have faced and inflicts annoying status effects that disable party members. However, it is weak to Kain’s jump attack.

I have the generic black mage cast Fira, Kain jump and the two white mages heal the party. It takes about three rounds to take the enemy down.

Porom rushes to the Elder and they take him to a bed to tend his wounds. The Elder tells Porom the monsters appeared from the Devil’s Road.

She concludes that Baron is already overrun. The Elder says he fears it is too late. The Elder asks after Kain.

Kain tells him the monsters are after the crystals and he needs to see Baron for himself. Porom says she will also go, but Kain says no.

Kain goes into the crystal chamber. Porom leaves the Hall and runs into the Mysterious Girl.

Mysterious Girl

She accuses her of being the one who sent the monsters through the Devil’s Road. The Mysterious Girl admits it.

The Elder limps his way out to confront her, saying those who lust for power must not have the crystals. She says she doesn’t need his permission and attacks.

Porom and the Elder are both white mages, so there is really nothing much they can do in this battle. The Mysterious Girl summons Ramuh.

The Elder teleports Porom out of the fight before Ramuh zaps him with his judgment bolt. Kain arrives.

He has the crystal and says he will give it to the Mysterious Girl if he gets an audience with King Cecil so he can kill him. The Mysterious Girl agrees and the pair leave.

Porom gazes up at the twin moons and says Palom’s name. Her tale ends.

Edward’s Tale: Prologue

The start screen for Edward’s Tale says that aided by his neighbors, Edward has nursed Damcyan back to health. One night, he witnesses a meteor strike.

A Baron Emissary orders Edward not to touch the crash site, so he travels to Baron with his secretary Harley, searching for an explanation.

No visitors allowed

Edward’s Tale opens with the Chancellor demanding an audience with the king, who seems to be playing his harp. He says he has serious financial matters to discuss.

The guards say they were ordered not to let anyone through. Edward’s secretary, Harley shows up.

She has either gray or platinum hair that makes it hard to decide how old she’s supposed to be, and bizarrely wears a mortar board all the time. The Chancellor asks her to help him talk some sense into these people.

He says Damcyan’s ledgers are in the red yet again and the kingdom is facing a severe financial crisis. Harley says she will consult with the king personally.

The Guardsman says the king requested no visitors. Harley convinces them to let her in.

Bussing the chancellor

Harley walks up to Edward and he says he asked the guards not to let anyone in. He wants to know if Harley is there on an urgent matter.

She immediately throws the chancellor under the bus, saying it probably isn’t. Edward says he supposes it is about Damcyan’s support pledge, which he says he put Harley in charge of.

Harley says he may need to reconsider. Edward says that Damcyan was only able to recover thanks to its neighbors in Mist and Fabul and there will be no reconsideration.

She agrees, but questions extending their aid to Eblan as well. Edward says this is why he was counting on Harley.

He says only she has the talent for this post. The flattery works, but Harley notes that there are times when a king must act with a firm, calculated hand.

Edward agrees, but says neither Damcyan nor he would be there if not for his friends’ voyage to the moon. The scene shifts to the throne room the next day.

Catch a falling star

The Chancellor is asking Edward about a falling star. Edward says it seems to have landed near Fabul.

Harley asks if he has considered it could be related to the second moon. Edward says he has.

The Chancellor concludes the horrors of the past have returned. Edward tells him to calm down.

Harley says an investigation is in order and she should be the one to do it. Edward wants to tell Baron about it and get Cecil’s opinion.

The Chancellor says he will summon a messenger. Harley still wants to investigate. Edward says it will be dangerous.

Harley says she will bring several members of his guard if he allows it. Edward says he will come with, but Harley tells him he needs to remain to govern the kingdom.

Sleepless nights

Some unspecified time later, Edward is up at night worrying about Harley. She has not returned.

They also have not heard back from Baron’s messenger. Edward thinks something must have happened.

The Chancellor suggests sending out a search party at daybreak and Edward agrees. Edward is thinking about Anna and Tellah. I wander around the castle looking for loot.

I read Harley’s diary. She is worried about the return of the second moon and thinks it may lead to war.

Edward rests for the night and dreams of Anna. He wonders why she looks so sad. Edward wakes and I finish looting the castle, finding a Bronze Tail.

Edward thinks the meteor likely landed near Mount Hobs. He is sure Harley must have run into trouble in the mountain passes.

Edward to the rescue

I step outside the castle and the Chancellor shows up. He questions where Edward is going at this hour.

Edward claims he is just out for some fresh air. The Chancellor tells Edward to take these three generic guards with him and stay close to the castle.

I raid the castle’s storeroom, getting some basic supplies and gear for my generic guards. I then head for the meteor site.

Harley, Harley, are you ok?

We arrive at the meteor site and Edward wonders if Harley is OK. I find some Iron Armor, which goes to one of the generic guards.

We encounter one of the guards Harley took with her. He tells us the investigation ran into several snags.

I find a Beret for Edward. Eventually, we spot Harley investigating some mysterious substance she thinks could have come from the moon.

She observes that the earth seems to have putrefied. I find a bronze tail.

Edward tells Harley he told her that coming here would be dangerous and she apologizes for worrying him. Harley concludes that something beyond their comprehension landed here.

Edward thinks it has something to do with the moon. He tells Harley they should return to Damcyan.

She objects, but Edward overrules her. Harley joins the party and we make our way out of the meteor site.

Fucking Redwings again

As we are leaving the meteor site, we spot one of the Redwings approaching Damcyan. Edward hopes it is just Baron’s messenger.

He encourages the party to hurry because he has a bad feeling about the airship. I save the game and quit at 48 minutes into Edward’s Tale.
