On day 51, of my Final Fantasy marathon, I continued progressing through my New Game Plus playthrough of the Crystals tale. Today, I’m doing more of the same.
The Crystals Tale part three

I finished up the first part of this tale by defeating Odin and evil Cecil. Once I got to the moon, I removed everyone’s equipment and then planned out how to approach the lengthy final dungeon.
I decided to attempt to play through this last part of the tale with groups chosen by who the various characters have bands with, so that each character will get a chance to play with all the other characters they have bands with. This results in 16 different groups.
I’m not sure how I’m going to do it though. I don’t want to play through the whole thing again, so I initially thought I’d just start the last tale, but then I remembered that though it has multiple parts, you can’t start just at the second part.
I don’t think I want to have to keep playing the whole final tale either, so I think I’ll playthrough with this first group and then put their final save on a different save slot so I can load the other groups in.
I’ll probably use them to hunt for tails until they get to a high enough level to take on the final boss. Probably just as well, because repeating the other fights really isn’t that entertaining.
They weren’t challenging at all until I got to the rematches with the archfiends and the only fight I really had to work at was the Lunar Dragon. Though, these fights might be more challenging with other groups.
Anyway, it’s too late to make a separate save, so I can do the whole thing with other groups, so that’s the plan. The first group is:
- Kain – level 63
- Rosa – level 60
- Ceodore – level 37
- Rydia – level 66
- Cid – level 30
This is a pretty balanced party with Kain being a strong physical attacker, Rosa being a powerful healer, and Rydia having powerful black magic and her summons. Ceodore is limited both on his attack power and his white magic, but has a ton of bands, which makes him versatile.
Cid can hit for decent damage at higher levels with better weapons, but he is so slow that he doesn’t even get a swing in on most random encounters until we get to the depths, when the fights get tougher and longer.
This group had little trouble plowing through the various boss fights, and I finished the night right after getting Bahamut back. I saved and logged out on the Depths – B4 level.
