On day 75 of my Final Fantasy marathon, I obtained the first tablet. Today, I’m on my way to the sealed castle to unlock some legendary weapons.

Lenna returns

When we walk into the Forest of Moore, we see a wind drake. It drops off Lenna.

She is unconscious and we hear a voice saying, “This body belongs to me!” Melusine, the entity possessing Lenna, attacks the party.

Exdeath shows up. He gloats about all the cool new powers he has now that he controls the Void.

Exdeath says he has a turtle infestation to take care of and we see him absorb the Library of Ancients into the Void. He says that soon the power of the Void will be his completely and the entire Earth will kneel before him.

Hiryu sacrifices himself to attack Melusine, driving her out of Lenna’s body. The party attacks.

Melusine is mostly immune to physical damage and can change her magical weakness, absorbing everything else. Since Rand is the only party member with offensive magic, this is a long battle.

I cast Libra with Faris to discover Melusine’s weakness and then have Rand use a summon that exploits it. I eventually win.

Lenna rejoins the party. We walk to the airship.

Sealed Castle

On the ship, Lenna says we can enter the Interdimensional Rift near where Castle Tycoon used to be. However, we decide we need to unlock the legendary weapons first.

The scene shifts to Exdeath. He calls forth the Void and swallows up several towns, including Rand’s hometown.

Rand loses his shit and flies around the world several times before finally snapping out of it. We fly to the Sealed Castle, where we find some of the scholars who escaped the Library of Ancients.

One of them says that maybe the island shrine protected by wind is the one to the west of Tycoon. Another speculates that beyond the river’s torrents could mean a waterfall.

We use the tablet and it grants us the ability to unseal three weapons. I unlock the Holy Lance for Faris, the Masamune for Lenna, and the Magus Rod for Rand.

We see Exdeath again. This time he is summoning monsters from the Void.

Revisiting old haunts

I decide to stop by the various towns to see if there is anything new going on. I head over to the Pirate Hideout.

Faris sees the spirit of Syldra. Krile tells her that Syldra wants to help and we gain the ability to summon her in battle.

I learn about a phantom village in a forest and that a tower appeared on the top of the Catapult and trapped Cid. I go to Fork Tower, but a magical barrier prevents me from entering.

I find the Phantom Village. It has no chests and one item. The item is the thief knife. There’s also a black chocobo I can use to access the area near North Mountain.

North Mountain

I fly the black chocobo to North Mountain and find Bahamut at the summit. However, he’s too difficult for me at this point, so I decide to come back later.

Istory Falls

I discover the wind drake at Castle Bal and use it to get the Magic Lamp from Istory Falls. There’s also a cave near there, but I can’t figure out any way to get to it at this point.

Island Shrine

I don’t find much else of interest, so I decide to go to the shrine located on Big Bridge. It has 14 chests and no items.

The shrine contains some puzzles and traps and some difficult random encounters. I get the Rising Sun from a chest.

Faris gets the Protect Ring. I find the Beast Killer in another chest. Rand gets the Circlet.

As we go to take the tablet, one of the monsters Exdeath summoned shows up. The Wendigo looks like four monsters, but only one of them is real.

Rather than try to guess which one is the real one, I use Lenna’s black magic and Rand’s summon spells to hit all four and have Faris and Krile heal the party. After a moderately long fight, we get the victory.

Reading the tablet removes the magic barrier to Fork Tower. I teleport out of the shrine.

Sealed Castle part two

I return to the Sealed Castle. While inside, Faris masters the Samurai job, so I switch her to Ranger and give her the White Magic level 6 ability. I unseal Yoichi’s Bow for Faris, the Assassin’s Dagger for Krile, and Sasuke’s Katana for future use.

I fly back to the town of Crescent to restock supplies and then save outside of Fork Tower and quit for the night.
