On day 76 of my Final Fantasy marathon, I obtained three more legendary weapons. Today, I’m headed into the Forked Tower to rescue Cid.

Forked Tower

The gimmick of the Forked Tower is that you must split into two parties and enemies on the left can only be damaged by magic, while enemies on the right can only be damaged by physical attacks. I send Rand and Lenna to the left and Faris and Krile to the right.

Each side of the tower has two chests and no items. Both parties cruise their way to the top.

The left side party finds the Wonder Wand in a chest. The right side party finds Defender.

The right side party faces Minotaur. Faris does most of the damage here, with Krile healing the party with items.

He tries to cast Holy at the end of the fight, but doesn’t have enough MP. We get the Holy spell as our reward for beating him.

Rand and Lenna take on Omniscient. They both contribute offensively with their magic. Having to rely on items for healing makes the battle a bit challenging, but they get the win.

Omniscient casts Flare on his way out and we get the Flare spell for winning the fight. The tower disappears, leaving the entrance to Catapult behind.

Cid

We dock the airship inside Catapult and find Cid stuck on a gear. We free him and Mid runs in. Cid tells us they discovered some long-lost engineering techniques in an old book and can now upgrade the airship to covert into a sub.

Cid and Mid get to work on the ship. Mid takes a break and talks to Krile. He tells her that Cid blames himself for the world being in the state it is in and is trying to make up for it with his mechanical abilities.

Cid finishes the sub and says he’s done all he can to help and now it is up to us. Faris remarks that now we can search for the tablet under the waves.

Mr. Clio

The first thing I find under the sea is Mr. Clio who tells you what your various stats are. I don’t know if this has any function or if it’s just an easter egg.

I find the entrance to the cave that leads to Istory Falls. I think I was supposed to get the other tablet first, but since I’m here…

Istory Falls

Istory Falls has 14 chests and one item, which we already collected. Once again, we have to defeat two gargoyles to get in.

Krile masters the chemist job, so I switch her to the Geomancer job and give her the Find Passages ability.

We find a Rune Blade in a chest. Rand masters the Summoner job, so I switch him to the Dancer job and give him the Summon Lv. 5 ability.

Lenna masters the Dragoon job, so I switch her to the Bard job and give her the Black Magic Lv. 6 ability.

We find Artemis’ Bow, which has better attack power than Yoichi’s, but I keep Yoichi’s Bow for the stat boosts. We also find an Aegis Shield.

Krile masters the Geomancer job so I switch her to the Red Mage job and give her the Find Passages ability. We find Titan’s Axe and the Enhancer, which goes to Krile, in the final two chests.

We get the fourth tablet and as we try to leave, another of Exdeath’s monsters shows up. It claims that once Exdeath gains the power of the Void, he’ll create a world just for monsters.

Leviathan surfaces from the water and kills the monster. He says he’ll give us his power if we beat him.

After failing a couple times, I decide to swap my jobs around. The main issue I was having was surviving Leviathan’s rapid fire tidal wave attacks.

I made Rand a Mystic Knight, Lenna a Knight with the black magic ability, and swapped Krile to White Mage and gave her the drink ability. This allowed me to heal the party with both Faris and Krile, while allowing Lenna to wear heavier armor while using her Thundaga spell and Rand to use the Thundaga spellsword ability, which did more damage than his summons, and also boosted his defense.

This time we got the win. I exited the falls, changed everyone back to their previous jobs and saved and quit.
